TAKEOVER CHALLENGE

The Children’s Commissioner sponsors this event when children and young peole take over the adult roles in their schools, colleges or other places of work and we felt that ours should be no different!

They worked in management, premises, catering, administration and health and did an amazing job while really enjoying themselves!!

BLUE PETER BADGE
Dylan got his Blue Peter Badge for Major Accomplishment. He went to Zante in Greece in the summer and had to deal with many new situations in completely new surroundings. Blue Peter recognised how difficult this can be for a child with severe autism.

URBAN FOOD AWARD – NEW SHOOTS CATEGORY

Dee Laverty – Gardener for Broadwaters has won an award for us for our work in Horticulture.  This is part of the application which gives you an idea of the amazing work she and Jude and the whole school community is doing:

“In 2014 we planted the food growing area with a selection of regular vegetables, and the children came and helped to maintain and look after the vegetables. It was quite informal, but since then we have really turned it into a special space to engage the kids with food growing. Since the start of 2015 the school has also employed Jude Nordon, a parent volunteer, specifically to work with the students on food growing projects. We work together to plan what will be planted and Jude links the food growing process to the curriculum. We are now supplying fresh produce to several local cafes and delicatessens including The Hub on Lordship recreation ground, Truffles delicatessen, two cafes run by Haringey association for independent living. We also sell the produce to the school-catering department. We have managed to raise enough money through sales to fund future projects. We are aiming to become completely self-funding.

Its great seeing the children follow the process of growing the food from beginning to end and seeing the satisfaction of selling it to a local café they all know and use. “
